Biggio needs an All-Star boost

Astros second basemen stands third in voting

HOUSTON -- Craig Biggio dropped to third among National League second baseman in All-Star balloting, according to the latest results released by Major League Baseball.

Biggio is behind front-runner Jeff Kent of the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis' Mark Grudzielanek. The Cubs' Todd Walker is behind Biggio, followed by Atlanta second baseman Marcus Giles.

Biggio was hitting .275 (60-for-218) with eight homers and 26 RBIs through Sunday's game with the Blue Jays. After hitting .300 in May, Biggio was batting .229 in his first 10 games in June.

Jeff Bagwell, who is not able to play due to right shoulder surgery, ranks fourth among first basemen in All-Star balloting. Bagwell trails the Cardinals' Albert Pujols, the Cubs' Derrek Lee and the Mets' Doug Mientkiewicz.

All-Star balloting continues at Minute Maid Park through Wednesday, June 22. Fans can cast their votes for starters up to 25 times with the Ameriquest 2005 All-Star Online Ballot at MLB.com and all 30 club sites. Online balloting ends at 11:59 p.m. ET on June 30.
