Still time to vote for Pedro, Alou, Giants

Time is running out for fans to secure an All-Star selection for a Giants player.

Balloting at SBC Park ends Thursday for the 76th All-Star Game on July 12 in Detroit, and there's still an outside shot that a San Franciscan can be named a starter.

Especially if there's a final push.

The "Vote for Pedro" -- that's infielder-outfielder Pedro Feliz -- write-in campaign is under way, but fans are also encouraged to vote for the Giants' hottest hitter, veteran outfielder Moises Alou.

Through the Giants' first 67 games, Alou leads the club with 11 homers and has hit nearly .340 with 28 runs, seven doubles and 27 RBIs in his last 43 games.

Other Giants candidates are outfielders Barry Bonds and Marquis Grissom, shortstop Omar Vizquel, third baseman Edgardo Alfonzo, second baseman Ray Durham, first baseman J.T. Snow and catcher Mike Matheny.

Although on the disabled list at the moment, Alfonzo was batting .328 over his last 20 contests, while Vizquel has been stunning at the plate on the club's road trip, boasting a five-hit game at Minnesota.

Matheny is surprisingly among the top offensive catching leaders in the league with six homers and 30 RBIs in 54 games, while Snow has revived his game after injuries, sickness and a mild slump.

Following a slow start, Durham has hit over .300 in the past 40 contests.

San Francisco fans can cast their votes up to 25 times with the Ameriquest All-Star Online Ballot at sfgiants.com. Online balloting ends at 8:59 p.m. PT on June 30.

From July 3-6, fans can again participate in the Ameriquest All-Star Final Vote, which determines the final position player for each League's 32-man roster.
