Game 1 to the good guys
Cardinals rookie shares thoughts on NLCS victory
On Wednesday, Rodriguez checked in after watching the Cards seize a 1-0 lead in the National League Championship Series.
The topic of the day is "Game 1 to the good guys." That's all I have to tell you is Game 1, good guys. We came out and did the little things. We had small ball, big ball, defense, pitching, like we've been doing all year. This is the way we play baseball and it's the way we're going to have to win.
Having my family here definitely is a big boost for me. It keeps me up even more. Today, I woke up early and went to pick them up. I made sure they were OK and came here to the ballpark.
We know that this is it. Now it's time. It's time to go to war. The red sea is behind us. There's really nothing that we can be afraid of. We just go forward and move on.
The first time I got called up, my uncle was here. This is the second time he's been here.
It's a beautiful thing here at the park. The red sea is a beautiful thing. It was breathtaking, especially with "God Bless America" in the seventh inning, when they were all singing. I had chills running through my body.
But tomorrow it's back to the same thing. We've got to do the little things. We've got to play defense. We've got to pitch. If we hit and pitch and play defense, we're going to win.
Again, I just want our fans to be behind us, like they were today. But I think I want them to be a little bit louder now.
John Rodriguez's diary appears as told to MLB.com reporter Matthew Leach. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
