Representatives for draft announced

Hall of Famer Roberts among big names for Phillies

PHILADELPHIA -- Hall of Famer Robin Roberts, Dallas Green and Lee McDaniel will represent the Phillies at the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday.

The first day of the draft, set to begin on June 7 at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., is scheduled to broadcast live on ESPN2 from 2-6 p.m. ET, marking the first time that the draft will be telecast.

Each team will have a member of its organization announce the picks. Some of the players scheduled to attend include Felipe Alou (Giants), Ellis Burks (Indians), Andre Dawson (Marlins), Dwight Evans (Red Sox), Ken Griffey, Sr. (Reds) and Don Zimmer (Tampa Bay). ESPN2 will air each team's first-round choice, when clubs have a maximum of five minutes to make a pick.

In 51 years of professional baseball, Green has held nearly every position possible, player, manager, general manager, scout and team president. Though never actually drafted, Green knows plenty about building a winner. As director of minor leagues from 1972-79, Green oversaw the development of many players who would later be instrumental to the 1980 World Series champions. That season, Green took over as manager.

Green, 72, is currently serving as a senior advisor to general manager Pat Gillick.

Roberts spent 14 of his 19 big-league seasons with the Phillies, and won 234 of his 286 games. His number was retired in 1962, and he was inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1976.
