Youkilis to shave goatee for charity
Gillette to donate $5,000 to Hits for Kids organization
By Ian Browne / MLB.com
The starting first baseman from the World Series champions will have his goatee shaved on Tuesday at the Cask 'n Flagon in Boston. The event, which will take place at 5 p.m. ET, is free and open to the public.
In turn for Youkilis losing the goatee, Gillette will donate $5,000 to the Kevin Youkilis Hits for Kids organization.
If there are any other scruffy spectators who want to have their goatees or beards shaved, stylists from Salon Marc Harris will be there to do so for any Cask patron that donates to Hits for Kids.
Youkilis launched the Hits for Kids Charity in September.
The charity is dedicated to rallying local and corporate support for charities and organizations focused on the health and well-being of children. The organization teams with existing community-based children's charities and medical research programs in both New England and Cincinnati, where Youkilis was born and raised.
It was definitely a successful season on the field for Youkilis, who won an American League Gold Glove Award by not making an error at first base and also was a key offensive cog for the Red Sox in the postseason. Now, Youkilis is trying to match that success with his charity.
