Rays find power stroke against Phils

Crawford, Iwamura, Pena log big days in rain-shortened game

Rays at the plate: Akinori Iwamura led off the game with a second-pitch home run off Adam Eaton, and the Rays added two more first-inning runs on RBI hits by John Rodriguez and Johnny Gomes. Carl Crawford had a double and triple and scored two runs. Carlos Pena also stroked his first home run of the spring.

Phillies at the plate: Chris Coste smacked his first home run of the spring in the second inning off James Shields. It scored Geoff Jenkins, who led off the inning with a double. Chase Utley also hit a two-run homer, his first in spring action.

Rays on the mound: Shields, the team's likely No. 2 starter, worked three innings, surrendering two runs on six hits. He walked none and struck out two. Troy Percival, in his first spring appearance, worked a perfect fourth inning.

Phillies on the mound: Eaton struggled for the second time, allowing four runs on five hits in two innings. His Grapefruit League ERA is 15.75. Chad Durbin also labored, surrendering a two-run homer to Pena.

Grapefruit League records: Phillies (4-5-1), Rays (5-1).

Up next: Left-hander Cole Hamels makes his second start of the spring against the Rays in St. Petersburg at 1:05 p.m. ET, with top prospects Carlos Carrasco and Josh Outman also scheduled to pitch. Right-hander Jeff Niemann will start for Tampa Bay.
