"It swelled up, and [there's] redness," Ankiel said. "I saw the doctor, he gave me some antibiotics and we'll try to kick [it] out of there."
Ankiel sustained scrapes on both his left hand and his knee when he made a sensational diving catch in Sunday's home game against Pittsburgh. He has been limited since then, more due to his hand than his knee.
However, he woke up on Wednesday with significant discomfort in the knee. It was determined that the scrape has become infected, and Ankiel was given medication and sent back to the hotel.
"I basically just slept [Tuesday night] and it got worse," he said. "The bruising from the dive, I feel a little bit of soreness, but today it seemed like it filled up with fluid quite a bit and didn't look so good."
