Report: Mariners consider Sexson move
Seattle contemplating letting go of slumping first baseman
By Jesse Baumgartner / MLB.com
Interim general manager Lee Pelekoudas and Mariners executives were in meetings for much of Tuesday to discuss plans for the rest of the season, which could include releasing first baseman Richie Sexson in the upcoming days, according to a report in the Everett Herald. A source in the story "familiar with moves that are planned," is credited as saying the timing of the Sexson move hasn't been finalized because of other personnel matters. Sexson, who took several games off at the end of May to work on his swing, has raised his average 19 points since re-entering the lineup on June 2 and using a more open stance. But his last home run -- and extra-base hit -- came on May 24, and his average currently sits at .219.
