Wainwright, Carpenter eye August return
Cards GM Mozeliak says pitchers on track to throw soon

Wainwright was cleared by doctors on Monday to begin throwing as he recuperates from a finger injury. Mozeliak said that if this week goes well for Wainwright, the right-hander could begin throwing off a mound by the end of next week.
"He will start a throwing program this week," Mozeliak said. "Depending on how he responds to that, it will dictate how much he can do next week. Given that he's not coming back from a shoulder or elbow, it will be a little bit of an acceleration versus normal."
Carpenter, meanwhile, reported no complications on Tuesday after throwing a simulated game at the Cardinals' Spring Training complex in Jupiter, Fla. Carpenter will likely throw another simulated game at the beginning of next week, and Mozeliak said it's possible that Carpenter's next time facing hitters after that could be the beginning of a Minor League rehabilitation assignment.
That would have the 2005 Cy Young winner pitching in the Minors on or around July 19, and, therefore, in the Majors within 30 days after that. Carpenter is attempting to come back from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery.
