Five BeachBoys named All-League
D-backs prospect Hallberg selected Hawaii Winter MVP

Bleich, selected in the first round of the June First-Year Player Draft, went 3-2 and ranked fifth in the league with a 1.77 ERA. He was second with 35 2/3 innings pitched, striking out 33 and walking 12.
Waikiki's Yonder Alonso, selected by the Cincinnati Reds with the seventh overall pick in the 2008 Draft, was named All-League first baseman. He hit .308 with four home runs and 21 RBIs, ranking fifth in HWB with a .510 on-base percentage.
Giants prospect Buster Posey was selected as a utility player after finishing fourth in batting with a .338 average. The BeachBoys catcher hit his first homer of the season in Sunday's championship game, giving him 15 RBIs and 15 runs scored.
Waikiki's Marquez Smith, a Cubs prospect, was named Defensive Player of the Year after leading all third basemen with 65 assists and 10 double plays. His two-out, two-strike, two-run homer on Saturday propelled the BeachBoys into the championship game.
Relievers Jeremy Papelbon (Cubs) and David Pfeiffer (Dodgers) are Waikiki's other representatives on the All-League Team. Papelbon led HWB with seven saves while compiling a 2.45 ERA. Pfeiffer was third with a 1.59 ERA, notching a win and three saves.
Astros' first-rounder Jason Castro of the North Shore Honu is the All-League catcher. The 10th overall pick in June hit .333 with two homers, 13 RBIs, 16 walks and a .438 on-base percentage.
Diamondbacks second baseman Mark Hallberg was named HWB Most Valuable Player after leading the league with 42 hits for the West Oahu CaneFires. He was third with a .362 average, tied for second with 24 runs scored and had 21 RBIs.
Blue Jays prospect Brad Emaus was named All-League third baseman after batting .333 with two homers, 12 RBIs and 18 runs scored for the Honolulu Sharks.
Shortstop Kyle Martin, who shared the league lead with six homers, was the Honu's other representative. The Royals prospect led the league with 18 extra-base hits and was third with 26 RBIs.
All-League outfielder Dominic Brown (Phillies) led Hawaii Winter Baseball with a .389 average and .506 on-base percentage. He also had six doubles and scored 13 runs for the Sharks.
The other outfielders were West Oahu teammates Kyle Peter and Cyle Hankerd. Peter, a Tigers farmhand, was second in batting at .370 and tied for second with 11 stolen bases. Hankerd, who signed with the Diamondbacks as a non-drafted free agent in 2006, was named Offensive Player of the Year after leading the with 30 RBIs. He hit five homers, finished second with a .545 slugging percentage and batted .318.
Sharks right-hander Satoshi Nagai was named Pitcher of the Year after leading HWB with four wins, 48 strikeouts and 41 2/3 innings pitched. His 1.94 ERA ranked sixth.
Pirates lefty Kyle Bloom, who was 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA for the CaneFires, also was selected. He struck out 32, walked 11 and gave up 15 hits over 30 innings.
Indians southpaw Kaimi Mead was another All-Team reliever. He led Hawaii Winter Baseball with a 1.37 ERA, recording two saves and 14 strikeouts over 19 2/3 innings for Honolulu.
