Royals catcher Brayan Pena took his DH role to heart, belting three solo home runs as the Gigantes (DR) doubled up Arecibo to nudge the Azucareros out of first place. Former Major Leaguer Antonio Perez also swatted a solo shot for del Cibao, and the Padres Will Venable drove in a run. Journeyman Jorge Padilla (Nationals) went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs for the Lobos. Veteran Dario Veras notched his 11th save. Box score

Escogido 4, Carolina 3
Mets infielder Argenis Reyes singled in the game winner for Escogido in the bottom of the 11th inning. Former Major Leaguer Pedro Valdes had a two-run homer for Carolina. Gigantes (PR) starter Willie Collazo, who pitched in six games for the Mets in 2007, scattered two hits over seven innings but came away with a no-decision. Veteran Minor Leaguer Nelson Payano retired the last six Leones (DR) to get the win. Box score

Estrellas 8, Mayaguez 0
Dodgers prospect Jovanny Rosario went 3-for-5 with a two-run double and a run scored and Major League veteran Pablo Ozuna doubled twice and added two RBIs as the Estrellas rolled over the Indios. Julios Matos contributed two hits for Mayaguez. Box score

Caguas 12, Licey 9
Free agent catcher Raul Casanova fell a triple shy of the cycle, knocking in four runs and scoring four times to lead the Criollos past the Tigres. Major League veteran Rob Cosby also had a pair of RBIs for Caguas. Erick Aybar (Angels) had four hits and plated a run for the Tigres. Box score

Ponce 3, Azucareros 0
Angels farmhand Giancarlo Alvarado shut out the Azucareros on five hits over eight innings, ending both their three-game winning streak and first-place tie. The Leones (PR) only managed four hits themselves, but former Major Leaguer Carlos Rivera's two-run homer in the first inning provided all the runs they'd need as they picked up a full game on Arecibo. Cubs prospect Doug Deeds had a pair of singles for del Este. Box score

Mariners farmhand Geraldo Valentin was 3-for-5 with a run scored and former Reds catcher Javier Valentin delivered an RBI double for the Cangrejeros. Rangers prospect Julio Borbon slugged a two-run homer for the Aguilas. Box score

Navojoa 3, Hermosillo 2, 10 innings
Adan Munoz hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning as the Mayos edged the Naranjeros to snap a five-game losing streak. Raul Lopez slugged a two-run homer in the seventh for Navojoa, while Major League veteran Erubiel Durazo homered to tie the game in the ninth for Hermosillo. Box score

Mexicali 4, Obregon 3
Tigers outfielder Matt Joyce had two hits and an RBI, while Derrick White went 2-for-4 and scored the go-ahead run as the Aguilas won their third straight. Former Braves farmhand Iker Franco doubled twice, singled and scored a run for slumping Obregon. Box score

Mochis 8, Guasave 2
Former Reds farmhand Jesse Gutierrez homered, drove in four runs and scored twice to power the Caneros past the Algodoneros Carlos Orrantia contributed a double and two RBIs for Los Mochis, while Leobardo Arauz homered for Guasave. Box score

Minor League veteran Jon Aceves hit a three-run double and former Major Leaguer Jose Silva threw two perfect innings his 10th save for the Tomateros. Big league veteran Chris Woodward plated two runs and scored one for Mazatlan. Box score

Caracas 3, Caribes 2
Blue Jays infielder Marco Scutaro smacked a two-run single and Alex Cabrera hit a solo homer as the Leones won their fourth straight. Pirates prospect Jose Tabata had two hits and an RBI for Anzoategui. Box score

La Guaira 11, Magallanes 5
Rangers catching prospect Max Ramirez doubled, homered and drove in three runs as La Guaira improved to 15-7 at home in a drubbing of Magallanes. Triple-A veteran Danny Sandoval added a homer and two RBIs as the Tiburones plated four runs in the second inning and five in the fourth. Neither starter fared well, as Major League veteran Victor Zambrano yielded five runs (two earned) in three innings for Magallanes and La Guaira's Enrique Gonzalez (a Padres farmhand) allowed five earned runs in 3 1/3 frames. Aragua 10, Margarita 2 (Game 1)
Twins farmhand Matt Tolbert went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and four RBIs as Aragua's six-run second inning set the tone for a rout in the first game of a doubleheader. The Dodgers' Luis Maza added three hits for Aragua, which solidified its hold on third place. Margarita starter Jesus Silva (Athletics) fell to 1-5 with a 6.92 ERA after lasting just 1 1/3 innings. Aragua 5, Margarita 2 (Game 2)
Aragua took advantage of six singles, a walk, a wild pitch and an error to plate five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and sweep Sunday's doubleheader. The Twins' Matt Tolbert added two more hits to go 5-for-7 with five RBIs in the twin-bill and push his batting average to .375. The victory edged Aragua over .500 at home this season (13-12) and to within 5 1/2 games of first-place Caracas. Box score

Lara 8, Zulia 2
Lara blasted three homers and scored seven runs in the first three innings before cruising to an easy win over visiting Zulia. Yankees prospect Edwar Gonzalez hit a two-run shot in the second inning before Jose Lopez (Mariners) and Luis Antonio Jimenez went back-to-back in the third. All three round-trippers came off Zulia starter Jan Granado, who fell to 3-3. Box score
