Phils ink Majewski to Minor League deal

Right-hander gets invite to Major League Spring Training

The Phillies signed reliever Gary Majewski to a Minor League deal on Tuesday, according to team sources.

In 2008, his fifth season in the Major Leagues, Majewski posted a 6.53 ERA in 40 innings with the Reds. For his career, the 28-year-old right-hander owns a 4.61 ERA in 240 1/3 frames.

A second-round pick of the White Sox in the 1998 First-Year Player Draft, Majewski features a mid-90s fastball and slider. Oddly enough, the Houston native works better with runners on base, as opposing batters hit just .271 against him with men on, and .331 with the bases empty for his career.

Majewski will likely go into Spring Training with an opportunity to join a Phillies bullpen that was the best in the National League last season, sporting a 3.22 ERA en route to a World Series title.
