Boggs, Scherer making progress

Cards right-handers not expected to be too far behind

JUPITER, Fla. -- Cardinals right-handers Mitchell Boggs and Matt Scherer are both coming along well in their returns from injury troubles.

Boggs, who was shut down for a few days due to tightness in his right shoulder, threw a bullpen session on Saturday. He said afterward that he felt just fine, and thus shouldn't be more than a week or so behind the other pitchers in camp.

Scherer has begun throwing long-toss and hopes to throw off a mound by Wednesday of next week. Earlier in the week, a club official estimated that Scherer's recovery from a forearm/elbow strain might take a month, but that assessment has been revised. The condition is similar to something that bothered Scherer for much of 2008.

"I didn't have any concerns coming in," Scherer said. "I felt good the whole time. It was more precautionary than anything, just to make sure it didn't get any worse since last year. I had it all last year and battled through it."
