Ruiz feeling better after Monday scratch

Phils catcher aims to resume rehab assignment Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz said Tuesday he hopes to continue his rehabilitation assignment Wednesday.

Ruiz, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique, felt soreness in the oblique while taking batting practice Monday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Lehigh Valley scratched him from the lineup and Ruiz returned to Philadelphia on Tuesday to be examined by team physician Michael Ciccotti.

"It was a little sore," Ruiz said. "But today I woke up and it's better."

Ruiz said he threw and swung in the cage Tuesday without problems.

"I was kind of glad that he shut himself down," Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "You don't want him to put himself in a position to really blow it out again. It's good to be cautious about it. He felt something and he stopped, and he feels better today."
