ST. LOUIS -- In a continuous effort to raise funds and awareness for cancer research, Major League Baseball has announced a new All-Star Summer event to take place in St. Louis, host of this year's All-Star Game.

The All-Star Charity 5K & Fun Run presented by Sports Authority and Nike will take place on Sunday, July 12, and all race-related net proceeds will be donated to three charities that support cancer research and education -- Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Stand Up To Cancer.

"With a commitment to provide money, time and resources to charitable initiatives with all of our major All-Star Summer initiatives, this year's contributions will be the most significant in Major League Baseball All-Star history," Tim Brosnan, executive vice president for business at Major League Baseball, said in a release. "This new event will be a great way for our guests and fans to have an authentic All-Star experience while raising money for an important cause."

The race will begin at Busch Stadium, the site for the 80th MLB All-Star Game, and finish at America's Center, home of the Major League Baseball All-Star FanFest. MLB legends and mascots will make appearances along the baseball-themed course.

The 5K portion of the event will begin at 7:30 a.m. CT and the family-friendly 1.1 mile Fun Run will start at 8 a.m. CT. Those participants signing up by May 22 will receive a discounted price of $25 (adult) and $20 (children 12 and under) for the 5K, and $15 (adult) and $10 (children 12 and under) for the Fun Run. All finishers get a commemorative All-Star medal and T-shirt.

Registration and event information is available at www.allstargame.com and all nine St. Louis area Sports Authority locations beginning May 18.

The All-Star Charity 5K & Fun Run is part of Major League Baseball's charity and community service initiative centered on the MLB All-Star Game theme, "Going Beyond." It's the most extensive initiative in Major League Baseball All-Star history.
