Hudson takes day off for Dodgers
Manager Torre says second baseman is 'beat up'
By David Ely / MLB.com
Hudson said that it was just a day off, but manager Joe Torre let on that it might develop into a few days of rest on the bench.
"Hudson's beat up," Torre told reporters. "Just from playing every day and you see the way he plays out there diving for this, diving for that. So we'll just sit him today and then we'll take it a day at a time."
When asked if Hudson suffered any ill-effects from a tumble into the stands he took while making a catch Tuesday, Torre said he wasn't aware of anything from that particular play.
But he said that he saw Hudson laboring on the field that same game.
"I saw him rounding the bases and it just looked like he was working at it," Torre said.
Hudson is batting .329 and leads the Dodgers with 71 hits and 39 runs.
