The 11th annual XM All-Star Futures Game, pitting the best Minor League prospects from the United States against the best from the rest of the World, will be held at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on All-Star Sunday, July 12, at 2 p.m. ET. MLB.com will provide complete coverage before, during and after the game, which can be seen live on ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD and followed live on Gameday.
Perez, a 24-year-old left-hander, will represent the Jays on the World team. He was signed by Toronto as a non-drafted free agent in 2003, and is in the midst of his first season in Double-A after spending last year with Class A Lansing. He has made 14 starts for the Eastern League's New Hampshire Fisher Cats, going 4-6.
Perez has improved his ERA since advancing to Double-A, posting a mark of 3.46 this year, down from 3.60 in 2008. He led his team in innings pitched last year, and his 83 1/3 innings lead his club this year as well. Perez has allowed 70 hits and 32 walks over that span.
The southpaw has struck out twice as many batters as he's walked this year, and has kept the ball in the park, allowing only four home runs for an average of 0.4 per nine innings.
