Gonzalez calls for release of list
Former D-backs slugger wants to lift suspicion from '01 season

"My phone line will be open," Gonzalez said on KGME, 910 AM, a Phoenix station. "I'm hoping I get a lot of apologies when that list comes out, to be honest with you.
"I know the courts are trying to hold everything. But I'm really one of those other 500 guys in the league that hopes that list comes out so I can walk around and nobody whispers behind my back, saying that he did it that year."
"That year" was 2001, when Gonzalez hit 57 home runs for the Arizona Diamondbacks, who went on to beat the New York Yankees on Gonzalez's bloop single in Game 7.
"My wife and I talked about it all the time. I said, you know, 'If I were to hit 30 home runs that year, you think anyone would even be mentioning my name?' " said Gonzalez, who just accepted an advisory position with the D-backs.
"If I hit 30 and we win the World Series, no one even says anything."
