Nationals remain in mix for Hudson
Free-agent second baseman said to be nearing decision

The source pointed out that Hudson has two great friends in outfielder Willie Harris and first baseman Adam Dunn, and that will play a factor in his decision. Hudson would also like to hit behind center fielder Nyjer Morgan.
When reached by phone Tuesday, Hudson said progress has been made toward signing with a team, but he wouldn't say which team was the leading candidate.
"There is good progress going on every day," Hudson said. "I will sign soon enough. You can put it on the Internet and on TV. I'm going to sign. I can't say exactly when. It will not be long. I can't say if it's with the Nationals, San Diego or Cleveland. I can't say with whom. Something is getting done."
For the second successive year, Hudson is waiting close until Spring Training to sign with a club. Asked if he was anxious that it's taking so long to get a deal done, Hudson said, "I'm not anxious at all. I had a good year. Now if I had a mediocre year, I would understand. My body feels fine, my wrist feels fine and my thumb is fine. I had an All-Star and a Gold Glove year. There is nothing to worry about."
Hudson played for the Dodgers this past season, hitting .283 with nine home runs and 62 RBIs.
