Uecker progressing well after surgery
Broadcaster awake in ICU after six-hour heart procedure
While he is still in the ICU, as expected, he has been reported as being awake, alert and able to sit in a chair. The recovery process, the team said in a release, is progressing as anticipated.
The surgery, a six-hour procedure, replaced Uecker's aortic valve, aortic root and part of his ascending aorta. A bypass was performed on another blood vessel as well.
Uecker is expected to remain in the hospital for five to seven days, with full recovery coming in approximately 10-12 weeks. Uecker's radio partner, Cory Provus, is handling play-by-play during the Brewers' road trip, with Fox Sports Wisconsin's Davey Nelson handling analysis. The team's flagship station, WTMJ-AM, will determine broadcasting assignments for the remainder of Uecker's absence at a later date.
