Yankees to wear patches for Boss, Sheppard

Following the passing of Yankees principal owner George Steinbrenner and former public-announcer Bob Sheppard, the organization made a decision on Tuesday to honor the pair on a daily basis.

The Yankees will wear commemorative uniform patches for the rest of the season to remember Steinbrenner and Sheppard, the club announced on Tuesday. Beginning with Friday's game at Yankee Stadium, the Yanks will don the patches to celebrate their memory.

The Steinbrenner patch will be positioned above the interlocking NY on the left breast of the Yanks' home jerseys. On the away jerseys, it will be worn above the letters "YORK" on the left breast. The located of the patch was selected to be worn over the players' hearts.

The patch commemorating Sheppard will be located on the left sleeve of both the home and away jerseys.

The Yankees also will honor "The Boss" at tonight's All-Star Game, when manager Joe Girardi and Yankees coaches and players will wear black armbands on their left sleeves to mark the owner's passing.
