D-backs activate Gutierrez from DL

Right-hander Rodriguez optioned to Triple-A Reno

The D-backs shuffled their pitching staff on Wednesday by activating right-hander Juan Gutierrez from the disabled list.

Arizona optioned right-hander Rafael Rodriguez to Triple-A Reno following Tuesday night's game, freeing the roster spot for Gutierrez's return.

Gutierrez went on the shelf on Aug. 3 with inflammation in his right shoulder. The 27-year-old had struggled out of the bullpen prior to his injury, compiling a 6.69 ERA over 39 innings pitched with the D-backs.

Rodriguez, 25, was acquired from the Angels in the Dan Haren trade on July 25 and had appeared in only two games since. He allowed two earned runs over 2 2/3 innings in those outings.
