Mets interview Dodgers assistant for GM
By Anthony DiComo / MLB.com
The Mets currently have no additional interviews scheduled for next week, though they do still have outstanding requests to interview other candidates.
White has spent the past nine seasons heading the Dodgers' scouting and Draft departments, receiving much of the credit for assembling the core of Los Angeles' roster -- most notably pitchers Clayton Kershaw, Chad Billingsley and Jonathan Broxton, first baseman James Loney, outfielder Matt Kemp and catcher Russell Martin. He also quarterbacked many of the club's recent international signings, including Japanese pitcher Hiroki Kuroda.
In the first round of this year's First-Year Player Draft, White landed high school pitcher Zach Lee, a two-sport star whom most clubs considered unsignable. After selecting Lee with the Dodgers' top pick, White surprised skeptics by signing the pitcher -- who at the time was taking reps at quarterback for the LSU football team -- just prior to the Aug. 16 deadline.
White also interviewed in 2007 for the Astros' GM job, which went to Ed Wade, and more recently for the D-backs' GM job, which went to Kevin Towers.
The Mets' GM job opened up last week when the team relieved Omar Minaya of his duties.
