Crawford adds Silver Slugger Award to mantel

Already, Carl Crawford has cleaned up this offseason.

No, the free-agent left fielder hasn't signed anywhere yet, but on Thursday, he took home his second award of the offseason: the American League Silver Slugger Award. This is his first Silver Slugger, and it comes on the heels of receiving his first AL Gold Glove Award on Tuesday.

Silver Slugger Awards are given annually to the best offensive player at each position in both leagues based on several different offensive categories and voted on by the coaches and managers.

C Joe Mauer, Twins 4

3B Adrian Beltre, Red Sox 2
SS Alexei Ramirez, White Sox 1

OF Carl Crawford, Rays 1
OF Josh Hamilton, Rangers 2
DH Vladimir Guerrero, Rangers 8

Crawford, though known nationally for his merits as a basestealer, has consistently improved as a hitter over the course of his Major League career. The 2010 season, which might have been his last with the Rays because of his free-agent status, certainly was his best. He hit .307 with 19 home runs and 90 RBIs while playing in 154 games.

Crawford also led the AL with 13 triples and had eight four-hit games, a Major League high.

As for where Crawford will land this offseason, he gave no hints in a conference call with reporters on Tuesday after he was announced as the Gold Glove winner.

"[We're] just kind of waiting -- waiting around to see what's going to happen," Crawford said. "My agent hasn't told me anything yet, we're not even rushing or [anything]. We're just kind of sitting back, waiting."
