Molina was selected to the Major League roster on Wednesday, one of several Yankees moves as they finalized their roster for Opening Day. That included a surprise-free announcement of the starting lineup for Thursday's 1:05 p.m. ET start against the Tigers.
Brett Gardner, Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez lead the way, with Robinson Cano, Nick Swisher and Jorge Posada following. Curtis Granderson and Russell Martin round out the order.
Along with Molina, Freddy Garcia, Bartolo Colon and Luis Ayala were all selected to the roster.
Molina, 29, went 1-for-18 in the Grapefruit League. Romine, 22, went 5-for-23, and Montero, 21, went 10-for-40. Romine was the only one to homer, doing so twice.
The competition for the backup job was opened up by Francisco Cervelli's fractured left foot. That officially landed Cervelli on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday, where he's joined by lefty reliever Pedro Feliciano, who has a strain in his throwing shoulder.
Three others were placed on the 60-day DL: left-hander Damaso Marte (left shoulder labrum inflammation), infielder Reegie Corona (fractured right elbow) and outfielder Colin Curtis (dislocated right shoulder). All the DL moves made are retroactive to March 22.
Right-hander Romulo Sanchez, who has an offer to play in Japan, was designated for assignment, and outfielder Chris Dickerson was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
