Ex-Reds COO Allen to aid Schieffer, Dodgers

John Allen, former chief operating officer of the Reds, has been selected to assist Tom Schieffer, recently appointed monitor of the Dodgers by Commissioner Bud Selig, in the oversight of the business, finances and day-to-day operations of the Dodgers and its related entities.

Allen joined the Reds as controller in 1995, and he was named a managing executive the following season. Allen served as Cincinnati's COO from 1999 through 2007, overseeing all business and ballpark operations of the team.

During that time, Allen was involved in the construction and development of Great American Ball Park prior to its opening in 2003. Allen also worked for the Triple-A Columbus Clippers before signing on with the Reds, and Schieffer said as part of a prepared statement that he was glad to have another capable mind in the mix.

"I am pleased that John Allen is coming on board to assist in the monitoring of the Los Angeles Dodgers franchise," Schieffer said in a statement. "As a longtime baseball executive, John provides a wealth of acumen that will be very beneficial as we continue forward in this process to help the Dodgers."
