Bautista and Gonzalez were named the league's top players for the period ending July 3, Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday. It's the first weekly award for Gonzalez, and a fourth for Bautista.
Gonzalez went 2-0 with an 0.60 ERA and a Major League-best 16 strikeouts in a pair of starts. He held the Marlins to one hit and whiffed nine in a 1-0 victory. Then on Sunday, Gonzalez went seven innings and gave up one run with seven strikeouts in a 7-2 win over the D-backs.
Gonzalez, 25, is 8-5 on the season with a 2.31 ERA. He took home his first All-Star selection this year, while Bautista, 30, earned his second with an all-time record-setting vote total of more than seven million.
Buatista hit .391 (9-for-23) with three doubles, four home runs and eight RBIs in seven games during the week, and is pacing the Majors in home runs with 27. He's second in the AL with a .329 average.
