Hosmer, who also received the award in July, collected the September honors after recording the best offensive month of his impressive rookie campaign. The 21-year-old Hosmer led all AL rookies with his 37 hits and 21 runs scored, while also recording five home runs. His 19 RBIs also tied White Sox third baseman Brent Morel for the highest total among AL rookies.
The highlight of Hosmer's month came on Sept. 20 when he turned in a 5-for-5 performance against the Tigers. The third overall pick in the 2008 First Year Player Draft had four singles and a three-run homer in that contest as the Royals routed the Tigers, 10-2.
Hosmer's five-hit performance came in the midst of a nine-game hitting streak that ranged from Sept. 14-24. He put up a scorching .476 batting average during that nine-game hitting streak and hit .349 for the month overall.
The consistent numbers put up by Hosmer since his May 6 debut, along with the strong finish, left him in the top-three among AL rookies in 11 offensive categories. Along with leading in runs (66) and hits(153), Hosmer finished second in batting average (.293) and RBIs (78) and third in home runs (19).
