Aretha delivers national anthem in Detroit
By Evan Drellich / MLB.com
DETROIT -- It's rare, but usually once or twice every postseason, there's a voice behind the national anthem that's so renowned, the performance takes the spotlight from the game -- even if only briefly. Aretha Franklin fit that category on Tuesday night. The Queen of Soul delivered a stellar rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner at Comerica Park, before the Tigers defeated the Rangers, 5-2, in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series. Franklin, 69, was born in Tennessee but rose to fame here in Motown. Franklin won't be in town for long. She's heading to Washington D.C. for this weekend's dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on the National Mall, where President Barack Obama will deliver the keynote speech.
