X-rays negative on M. Ellis' leg after slide
By Ken Gurnick / MLB.com
Ellis became the latest Dodgers position-player casualty when he was injured on a takeout slide by Cardinals second baseman Tyler Greene. Already on the disabled list are Matt Kemp, Juan Rivera, Juan Uribe and Jerry Hairston.
With one out in the top of the seventh of the Dodgers' 6-5 win, shortstop Dee Gordon fielded Shane Robinson's grounder and gave an underhand toss to Ellis at second base. Ellis' left leg was hit while planted by the sliding Greene before he could get off the throw.
Ellis' ankle appeared to be twisted by the impact, then he flipped in the air and landed on his back. He remained in the game to finish the inning, hit for himself in the bottom of the seventh, then was removed in the eighth in a double-switch.
"It's not broken," Ellis said as he limped back to his locker. "It hurts a lot. We have to get the swelling out of there. I'll be all right."
Ellis said it was hard to pinpoint the injury.
"The ankle, shin, the whole lower leg hurts," he said.
