Padres come to terms with 23 Draft picks

Among San Diego's new signees is shortstop Fernando Perez, a freshman at Central Arizona JC selected in the third round. The club also agreed to terms with fifth-round selection Mallex Smith, a center fielder from Santa Fe Community College in Florida, eighth-round choice Brian Adams, a center fielder from the University of Kentucky, and 10th-round pick Stephen Carmon, a shortstop from the University of South Carolina Aiken.
In all, the Padres nabbed 22 pitchers (14 right-handed and eight left-handed), three catchers, 10 infielders and nine outfielders with their 44 picks. San Diego selected 27 college players and 17 high school players.
The team opted for southpaw pitcher Max Fried from Harvard-Westlake High School in California with its first-round pick, the seventh overall selection in the Draft.
