Cespedes hit .571 (8-for-14) with two home runs and a double in the series following the All-Star break, also driving in six runs and scoring five. He led the AL in runs and total bases (15), and tied for first in hits. He also tied for fourth in the Junior Circuit with a .571 on-base percentage this week.
This is Cespedes' first career weekly honor. He's the second A's player to earn the award this year, joining first baseman Brandon Moss, who was named AL Player of the Week on June 18.
The 26-year-old outfielder opened the second half Friday with a pair of singles in Oakland's 6-3 win over the Twins, and on Saturday, hit one of four A's homers at Target Field. Aside from his third-inning homer, Cespedes also doubled, had three RBIs and scored twice in the 9-3 win.
Cespedes capped the weekend by knocking out a career-best four hits in five at-bats, including a home run.
Teammate Jonny Gomes, who hit a grand slam in Oakland's win on Friday, also was among the finalists for the award after the outfielder hit .625 with two home runs and seven RBIs over the weekend.
