Hot hitting nets Rockies' Nelson Player of Week

Chris Nelson's blistering numbers at the plate last week earned the Rockies third baseman his first career National League Player of the Week honors.

Nelson hit a Major League-best .560 (14-for-25) last week, while also leading the league in hits and total bases (21). The 27-year-old hit safely in all six games last week and notched multihit efforts in five of those contests.

He also matched his career best of three hits in a single game on three occasions -- doing so twice against the Padres and once against the Giants.

Nelson's hitting streak sits at eight games overall entering play Monday, and he's also scored at least one run in seven of those eight games.

In his third season with the Rockies, Nelson is hitting .294 with nine home runs and 47 RBIs.
