Francisco has bone spur removed from right elbow
By Spencer Fordin / MLB.com
Francisco, 33, went 1-3 with a 5.53 ERA last season, saving 23 games, but only five of them came after the All-Star break. Prior to joining the Mets, Francisco had 17 saves for Toronto in 2011 and a career-best 25 saves for Texas in '09.
Francisco, who has a 19-22 career record with a 3.92 ERA and 72 saves, is expected to begin throwing in about six weeks and should be ready for Spring Training. The right-hander has spent virtually all of his career -- 331 of his 379 appearances -- in the American League.
Last season, his first with the Mets, Francisco finished 38 of the 48 games he pitched in and allowed five home runs in his 48 appearances. Francisco had a 7.17 ERA in 10 April appearances last season, and he skewed his season-ending statistics by posting a 9.82 mark in 10 August outings.
