Top finishers in voting for MVPs, Cys, Managers and Rookies of Year revealed tonight

The top contenders for baseball's four major individual honors will become known Tuesday night when the finalists for the Baseball Writers' Association of America awards are revealed.
With the Most Valuable Player, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year awards to feature three from each league, the finalists will be the focus of a one-hour special on MLB Network beginning at 6 p.m ET.
The lists of the best of the best in each of the award categories are sure to include the power of the Tigers' Miguel Cabrera and the Orioles' Chris Davis, the overall excellence of the Pirates' Andrew McCutchen and the Angels' Mike Trout, and the mound dominance of the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw and the Tigers' Max Scherzer.
Those are just some of the names of players who fared well in the voting for the BBWAA awards, the winners of which will be revealed next week. The Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Awards for each league will begin the parade of honors on Monday, followed by Managers of the Year on Nov. 12, Cy Young winners on Nov. 13 and MVPs on Nov. 14. Each of the announcements will be made live on MLB Network at 6 p.m. ET.
Voting for the awards, conducted by the BBWAA, took place at the end of the regular season, so postseason performances have not been taken into account.
The American League MVP situation figures to generate as much discussion as it did last year, perhaps even more so with a third viable candidate in the mix. Cabrera, last year's winner, again is in the hunt, and 2012 runner-up Mike Trout of the Angels and slugging sensation Davis of the Orioles would seem to be locks to be finalists, too.
If Cabrera makes it back-to-back MVPs, he'll be the first to accomplish that in the AL since Frank Thomas of the White Sox in 1993-94. On Monday, Cabrera was named the Players Choice Awards for AL Outstanding Player and Player of the Year for a second straight year.
Among those expected to be in the National League MVP hunt are McCutchen and the Cardinals' Matt Carpenter and Yadier Molina -- three key reasons the NL Central race was such a thrill all the way to the final days. McCutchen took the Players Choice honor as NL Outstanding Player for a second straight year, although it was the Giants' Buster Posey who was named MVP by the BBWAA a year ago.
Kershaw and Scherzer will be among the favorites for the Cy Young Awards, Clint Hurdle of the Pirates and John Farrell of the Red Sox are among the likely finalists for Manager of the Year, and Jose Fernandez of the Marlins and Wil Myers of the Rays are coming off Outstanding Rookie honors in the Players Choice Awards and figure to lead the fields for Rookie of the Year accolades.
Baseball's awards season continued with the Players Choice Awards, among them the Yankees' Mariano Rivera being honored as AL Comeback Player and the Marvin Miller Man of the Year. The Silver Slugger Awards will go out to the best hitters at each position on Wednesday.
