Winter Leagues: Phils outfielder Abreu stars

Venezuelan Winter League

Caracas 14, La Guaira 13
In this wild round-robin contest on Monday, it was Caracas who came out on top after scoring five runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat La Guaira. Bobby Abreu was the catalyst for Caracas, going 3-for-4 with a home run and six RBIs. It was his two-run single in the final frame that sealed the victory.

Caribes 6, Zulia 1
With a steady attack throughout Monday's contest, Caribes got the victory over Zulia in the round-robin playoffs. Cory Aldridge led the way, going 2-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBIs. The bottom of Caribes' order also combined for five hits. Alex Herrera got the win, while Raul Rivero took the loss.

Dominican Winter League

Licey 2, Escogido1
Game 1 of the Championship Series between Licey and Escogido was a tight one. It was the pitching of Mitch Atkins and the timely hits by Licey that proved to be the difference. Atkins got his first win of the playoffs, allowing just one run on four hits in seven innings of work. Elih Villanueva took the loss.
