MLB launches new multi-media marketing campaign; spots featuring David Price and Mike Trout debut this week

With Opening Day officially underway, Major League Baseball launched a new multi-media marketing campaign titled, "For the Love of Baseball." The campaign, created by BBDO in its first work as Major League Baseball's new marketing partner, celebrates everything that makes baseball special showcasing the personalities and unique abilities of some of the game's biggest stars. Spots began airing this weekend on ESPN during Sunday Night Baseball and will also air on FOX, Fox Sports 1, MLB Network, TBS and MTV2 throughout the season, along with digital and social media extensions on MLB.com and MLBFanCave.com. Nearly one dozen players will be featured in the "For the Love of Baseball" campaign throughout the season, including Miguel Cabrera, Robinson Cano, Prince Fielder, Bryce Harper, Clayton Kershaw, Andrew McCutchen, David Price and Mike Trout, among others. 

Personalized spots featuring Price and Trout debut this week with unique creative concepts tailored to each player. The Trout spot features a child's voiceover directing Trout's every move on the field through the game "Simon Says." The spot featuring Price sheds light on his hobby of nicknaming everything around him, from his pitches to individual sunflower seeds. Additional player-centric spots featuring more of baseball's top stars will continue to roll out throughout the season. Also launching this week are spots focusing on what makes Opening Day special and the uniqueness of the ballpark experience.

"With the most exciting crop of young stars the game has seen in generations, there's never been a better time to be a baseball fan," said Tim Brosnan, Executive Vice President, Business, Major League Baseball. "This campaign showcases what makes these players special while also celebrating the thrills our fans experience while watching them perform both on television and at the ballpark."

A companion campaign via social media also launches today, supported by all MLB, Club and MLB Fan Cave social media channels featuring the theme #LoveBaseball. Fans are encouraged to upload short videos via Instagram and Vine using the hashtag and demonstrating how and why they love baseball. The best submissions will be featured on MLBFanCave.com.
