Howard gets test, plays third straight day
Ryan Howard found himself in the starting lineup Sunday. That is noteworthy only because it was the first time Howard had played three consecutive games in three consecutive days since returning from the disabled list July 6 following a left Achilles injury.

Sunday, July 12, 1931, was a good day for doubles. That afternoon, in the first game of a doubleheader, the visiting Cubs defeated the Cardinals, 7-5, and out-doubled them, 5-4. But the nine combined two-base hits were nothing compared to what took place in the second game.
