As expected, the Mariners announced on Tuesday that they placed Mike Carp on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin muscle. In a corresponding move, the Mariners recalled Justin Smoak from Triple-A Tacoma. The switch-hitting first baseman was in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays.
