Tigers lose ground after dropping twin bill
Once Jamey Carroll's 10th-inning single scored Denard Span in Sunday's nightcap, the Twins were on their way to a doubleheader sweep with a 2-1 win. The Tigers, in turn, dropped a half-game in the standings on a day when the White Sox lost to the Angels for a series sweep.

Right-hander Max Scherzer worked into the sixth inning -- a turning point in the game -- as the Twins exploded for five runs en route to a 10-4 win over the Tigers on Sunday in Game 1 of a twin bill.
