The Miami Marlins begin a six-game homestand tomorrow, with the opener of a three-game set against the Kansas City Royals. The Marlins then conclude the homestand with a three-game, weekend series against the San Diego Padres, beginning on Friday, August 26.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Marlins Foundation has donated $20,000 to fund the Kiwanis of Little Havana/Marlins Foundation Back to School distribution, a week-long distribution from Monday, August 22, to Friday, August 26. The yearly Back to School Caravan aims to excite and prepare students for the upcoming school year by providing school supplies to thousands of children. At each distribution site, every student will receive a backpack containing pencils, notebooks, folders, safety scissors, a glue stick, crayons, a ruler, markers, composition books, and filler paper.
The Marlins Foundation, in partnership with the Miracle League of Miami-Dade County (MLOMD), the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces, and the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade, will break ground for the first Miracle League baseball field in Miami-Dade County. The event will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Tamiami Park (11201 SW 24 ST, Miami, FL). This specialty baseball field, specifically designed for use by youth with developmental and intellectual disabilities, is possible thanks to funding from the Marlins Foundation, the Parks Department and the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade, and other private sponsors.
