Manager Mike Scioscia has insisted that the Angels success would be more related to the returning health of the team's core players than any flashy numbers put up big-name free agents. Starter Jamie Moyer pitched well for five innings, surrendering two solo home runs, but ultimately, the Mariners began their 28th season on a sour note. Moyer's second career Opening Day start unraveled in the sixth when the Angels blew the game open with a four-run uprising. The inning was highlighted by Troy Glaus' three-run homer to center field.
