Thanks to solid work from starter Colby Lewis and a near-flawless bullpen effort from the trio of Jay Powell, Erasmo Ramirez and Francisco Cordero, Texas ended a couple of dubious streaks in the process.
Texas came into the game 0-11 lifetime against A's left-hander Barry Zito and riding a nine-game losing streak against the A's dating back to last season.
Barry Zito was good, but Colby Lewis and the Texas bullpen was just a little bit better. Zito worked eight solid innings, allowing two runs on seven singles and four walks, but the A's were held to five hits.
"What can you do?" Zito said after suffering his first career loss to the Rangers in 12 decisions. "Their bullpen did well today, and Lewis had a great outing."
