Michael Young scores on Joel Pineiro's wild pitch in the third inning (LM Otero/AP)
Righty Ryan Drese allowed three runs and seven hits as the Rangers held on against the Mariners. Drese (1-0) struck out two batters, issued four walks, and hit one batter in 5 2/3 innings for the win and continues to develop into the pitcher the Rangers hoped he would be when they traded for him in 2002.
