Rangers burst into first
Freddy Garcia must wonder what he did to deserve so little support. The righty has pitched 27 2/3 innings this season and surrendered runs in just four of them. But he remains winless because the Seattle offense has scored six runs on his behalf. Seattle suffered its fourth straight loss and the Mariners are the only team in the AL West without a share of first.

Hank Blalock homered in the bottom of the eighth inning, breaking a 0-0 tie. With the victory, the second consecutive win against the Mariners, the Rangers move into a three-way tie for first place in the AL West with Oakland and Anaheim. This is first time Texas has been in first place this late in a season since June 5, 2000.
