Opportunities knock for Yanks
Kevin Brown pitched five innings, allowing an unearned run while striking out five, and the Yankees used a pair of Mets fielding miscues to score twice in the sixth inning to win the opener of their Interleague series. Hideki Matsui drove in two runs for the surging Bronx Bombers, winners of 11 of their past 12 games.

Kaz Matsui ripped an RBI double in the fourth inning and Carlos Beltran added a run-scoring single in the seventh, but it wasn't quite enough to save the Mets. Victor Zambrano lasted into the sixth inning before the Yankees pushed across two costly runs. The Mets' bullpen did its job for two innings before running into trouble in the ninth.
