Safeco and sound in Seattle
After scuffling for runs in the first two games of the Interleague series, the Mets got an early homer from Cliff Floyd and a four-run sixth inning to close in on the Mariners. Richie Sexson's two-run homer in the first and a four-run sixth turned back the Mets to cap the Mariners' three-game sweep. After New York chased starter Gil Meche in the sixth to pull within one run, Seattle used RBI singles by Raul Ibanez, Jose Lopez and Ichiro Suzuki to pull away for good.
