Kip Wells didn't allow his first hit until the fifth, and gave up just four hits in seven innings. Unfortunately for Wells, three of those hits were home runs. Mike Johnston allowed two more homers, and the Pirates' offense managed just one run on five hits.

So Taguchi broke up Kip Wells' no-hitter in the fifth with a solo homer -- the first of two for Taguchi and five for the Cards. Jim Edmonds went yard twice as well and Yadier Molina added a solo shot. Jeff Suppan went 8 1/3 strong innings to earn his seventh win.
