A's homer-happy in Detroit
A's beat back Tigers
Mark Ellis led off the game with a home run, setting the tone for the rest of the night. Mark Kotsay, Eric Chavez, and Bobby Crosby all followed Ellis' example, sending the A's to their second straight win over the Tigers. Starter Kirk Saarloos turned in a great performance, throwing seven shutout innings for his ninth win of the year.

Series at a glance:
Tigers' pains growing
Starter Jeremy Bonderman left in the fourth after being struck above his right hand by a line drive off the bat of Marco Scutaro. Bonderman had given up three runs on nine hits in three-plus innings. Carlos Pena hit a two-run homer in the eighth, but it was too little, too late as Detroit fell to the A's.
