Cubs undaunted by Cards ace
Carpenter chased early

Chris Carpenter turned in his shortest outing since April 10 as he lasted only four innings and allowed four runs in a loss to the Cubs. Carpenter did not figure in the decision, but the Cardinals lost a game started by their ace for the first time since June 8.
